Mechanomyographic Measures of Muscle Contractile Properties are Influenced by the Duration of the Stimulatory Pulse
نویسنده
چکیده
The aim of this investigation was to determine the effect of percutaneous neuromuscular stimulatory (PNS) pulse duration on whole muscle contractile properties of the human biceps brachii muscle as measured by a laser-based mechanomyographic (MMG) technique. This study quantified the effect of PNS pulse duration on muscle contractile properties to facilitate the development of standardized techniques to utilize MMG as an in-clinic assessment tool. Ten male volunteers, aged 19 to 33 years, participated in the study. Percutaneous neuromuscular stimulation (maximum of 180V and 85mA) was delivered by a transcutaneous electrical neuromuscular stimulation (TENS) device, through bipolar surface electrodes, to the short head of the right bicep brachii. The duration of the PNS pulse was randomly varied so that 10 tri-

The relationship between changes in joint kinematics parameters and mechanomyographic signals during non-isometric contraction in human skeletal muscle.
The present study determines the effects of summation of contraction on joint kinematics in human ankle and mechanomyography (MMG) signals during non-isometric contraction. The excursion and angular velocity of dorsiflexion and eversion were measured during several summation profiles during non-isometric contractions. The joint kinematics parameters and MMG responses to 1-8 pulses at a constant...
متن کاملSurface Electromyographic Assessment of Swallowing Function
The reliability of surface electromyographic (sEMG) variables during swallowing determines the potential usefulness of these measures in swallowing assessment and treatment. This study aimed to establish the reliability of the sEMG measures of the swallowing function of muscles during different swallowing conditions in healthy young and old volunteers. Two groups of volunteers (24 older adults,...
متن کاملLevo-Carnitine Reduces Oxidative Stress and Improves Contractile Functions of Fast Muscles in Type 2 Diabetic Rats
Background: Metabolic derangements in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are likely to affect skeletal muscle contractile functions adversely. Levo-carnitine improves muscle contractile functions in healthy humans and rats and corrects metabolic derangements in T2DM. Therefore, it is likely to improve muscle contractile functions in T2DM as well. This study was designed to determine the effect of ...

Bunium persicum (Boiss.) is an economically important medicinal plant growing wild in arid regions in Iran. The essential oil of B. persicum (EOBP) was extracted using hydrodistillation. A total of eighteen compounds, representing 96.14 % of the oil was identified by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS).The main compounds were cuminaldehyde (23.04 %), gamma-terpinene (14.48 %), trans-3...

The purpose of the current study was to examine the time course of changes in neuromuscular responses from the vastus medialis (VM) during low versus high intensity dynamic constant external resistance (DCER) leg extension muscle actions to failure. Thirteen men performed DCER leg extensions to failure at 30% and 70% 1-repetition maximum (1-RM) as well as 1-RM measurements pretest and posttest....
